Secure Funding for Apprenticeships
How Apprenticeship Funding Works
Apprenticeship training is funded differently depending on whether your business pays the Apprenticeship Levy. Below is a simple overview to help you understand what you can claim and what you may need to contribute.
Levy-paying employers
If you pay the Apprenticeship Levy, you use your levy funds to pay for apprenticeship training and assessment. Your funds sit in a digital account and expire after a set period if they are not used.
Non-levy employers
If you do not pay the levy, government funding covers most apprenticeship training and assessment costs. You pay a small employer contribution, and the government pays the rest, with extra support available for some learners.
Funding covers
• Off-the-job training time (20% requirement)
• Training and assessment delivery by the provider
• End-point assessment costs (where included in the standard)
• End-point assessment costs (where included in the standard)
Funding does not cover
• Wages, overtime, and employer on-costs
• PPE, tools, uniforms, travel, and subsistence • Business-specific systems training (your internal processes)

Frequently Asked Questions
Who is eligible for apprenticeship funding?
Eligibility depends on the apprenticeship standard, the apprentice’s right to work and residency status, and your organisation’s funding rules. We will confirm eligibility with you before you start.
Do apprentices need to be full-time to qualify?
Not always. Many apprentices can be funded on part-time hours, but the programme length may increase. We will check your working hours and advise what is possible.
How much time does an apprentice need to spend off the job?
Apprentices typically need dedicated off-the-job training time as part of their paid working hours. We help you plan this time so it fits around real work demands and evidence collection.
What time commitment is required from managers and supervisors?
Plan for regular check-ins, support with gathering work-based evidence, and occasional progress reviews. We keep requirements clear and provide templates so managers spend less time chasing paperwork.
What funding support is available for employers?
Funding support varies by employer size, levy status, and the apprentice’s circumstances. We will explain what you can claim, any required employer contribution, and the steps to access funding.
Can you help us apply for funding and manage the paperwork?
Yes. We guide you through the funding process, help you prepare the required documents, and keep you on track with deadlines and compliance checks.
